I’ve added to this post and moved it to the official:

No more pond hockey on Evergreen Lake…
The ice is gone and even with the BIG snow we picked up this weekend there will be no more skating until the holiday season next year! However, sledding in Evergreen is going strong at Cub Creek Park. And Conifer sledding at Meyer’s Ranch is terrific.
Evergreen Lake Ice Skating is open, but please call the hotline at 303.512.9300 first before coming to the lake.
There are regular pick-up hockey games on a few sheets and open skating others!
Take a look at CBS Channel 4’s video of Skating on Evergreen lake– (2008) http://cbs4denver.com/video/?id=38430@kcnc.dayport.com
To me, nothing is more seasonal than pond hockey on Evergreen Lake. Skating around in one of the most beautiful places on earth in the crisp
winter air under deep blue skies is ideally Colorado!
The pond is frozen and I’ve seen both skaters and zambonis on the ice but as of 5:41 PM December 26 the lake is not officially open for skating. Stay tuned though and I’ll update you on this years opening!
Pond Hockey at Evergreen Lake is managed by the Evergreen Parks and Recreation District
whose web site is http://www.evergreenrecreation.com/ the hotline for the lake is (303)512-9300.

Today’s update: as of 5:16 PM the lake still is not open for skating. Skating is on a day-to-day basis and I will post the opening as soon as I learn of it!
That said, the sledding in Cub Creek Park (just off the switchback on highway 73 South of Evergreen) was fantastic today! Lots of folks were out sledding– even a few young snowboarders were out. It was very thin but loads of fun…
Evergreen Lake is not open for skating right now due to “poor ice conditions” although I understand the ice fishing has been productive for rainbows from 8-10″ on salmon eggs!
Ice skating is open! It’s 52 degrees on Evergreen Lake and it’s packed with skaters, ice fishing and figure skaters!
